Quick update b/c I am trying to spend less time online these 10 days. Easier said than done!

Hooray!!! Day 3 I woke up without a headache and general malaise. This was big because if I think back to how I felt on Monday/Tuesday there is no sugar-coating how AWFUL I felt. I didn't want to complain because I chose to do this, but trust me, it really was miserable.
I drank several cups of warm lemon water while getting my kids ready for the school bus, then went upstairs to spend :30 minutes on the elliptical. I am actually supposed to be spending :30 minutes outside walking, but I can bring myself to go out in that frigid weather… so instead, I am sweating while catching up on smut TV. Even though my workout isn't hard, I still have to pause every 5 minutes or so. My body still feels tired.
I switched up my smoothie this morning, trying the Almond and Strawberry Smoothie {should be around page 270 when the book comes out} which was delicious, and not as filling as the Whole Food Protein Shake I'd enjoyed Days 1 and 2. Today's smoothie was a blend of almond butter + walnuts + strawberries + avocado + fresh ginger + cinnamon + ground flaxseeds + water. So, lots of good stuff blended up to start my day. I feel like I am starting to get into a rhythm, knowing that all 3 of the meals and the 2 optional snacks, are nutrient-dense and filling. There has been zero hunger. In fact, I haven't needed the morning snack at all yet.
Then, I had to prepare for being out and about running around from 11am-6pm. I really didn't want to find myself in a bind, so I packed up my PGX {which I had to slurp while volunteering at the children's school-- and yes, the parents next to me commented on how I glug glugged that stuff down. If you haven't tried PGX, it takes some getting used to. It also, achem, helps keep you regular.}
So anyway, before leaving the house, I made a big salad that included: lemon and olive oil vinaigrette + avocado + 2 C baby kale +
a few hearts of palm +
2 hardboiled eggs +
a bunch of the steamed veggies leftover from Day 1 +
a few kalamata olives for zing + a shake of dried parsley + a shake of cayenne for a kick.
And I packed everything up and was on my way! I also put an Artisiana Coconut Butter packet in my purse in case I didn't have a chance for an afternoon snack… and was glad I did. Those two things held me over until 6pm.
After a big re-stock of veggies and chicken in between dropping and picking up kids here and there, I steamed a big box of Earthbound Farms Power Greens for dinner
and made a batch of Asian-Flavored Chicken Skewers from the book {page 279}. As you can see, the recipe made plenty. I've found all of the dinner recipes to be very generous portion sizes, which thrills my husband.
I had the dinner as recommended - chicken over a big bed of steamed and then lightly sautéed leafy greens
and the kids had a sample of greens {which uncooked was at least 1 cup+!!}, a chicken skewer and some Trader Joe's macaroni and cheese. Everyone was happy. Looking ahead, I've picked dinners for Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun that everyone in the family will like… which means Detox for me + no extra work also taking care of them!!

So glad you are feeling better! What is in the PGX? I'm sort of surprised that you are supposed to take it instead of solely eating good, whole foods. Can you explain the PGX component a little more?

OK, so I too was a little wary of what all of these vitamins and PGX were. As someone who has never taken any vitamins, I've know I *should*, but well, I hadn't gotten around to it. So, on the vitamin front, this gave me a little kick in the pants!!
On the PGX front, you know me well enough to know that I would *never* take anything synthetic or that goes against the normal rhythms of the body, so I did do some poking around to see exactly what this PGX stuff is. It is a 100% natural plant-based fiber supplement (from a root called konjac). It is marketed as an app suppressant because most people want to lose weight. {Smart marketeers!} However, the other part of the story about this fiber is that it slows down absorption in our GI tract giving foods an increased transit time, leaving more time to absorb nutrients. The "side effects" I experienced were an increase bulk in stool {since the topic of poop has to come up during this detox}, and I was told that it would promote bile binding and increases cholesterol excretion. Two perks as I did the detox.
My goal during this detox was to get my acto together, and I knew a place to start was to promote better GI function overall. By altering the gut flora and improving the bacteria in there, I hoped it would increase my immunity, decrease inflammation and improving insulin sensitivity {which I believe led to some of my cravings}.

Hopefully this helps shed some light on the mystery part of the detox!!
